Black Diamond Real Estate

A small, rural community with less than 4,000 residents, Black Diamond might be considered a jewel in the rough. Coal miners settled here in the 1880's, naming the town after the Black Diamond Coal Company. After World War I, coal production slowed and many people left for more economically developed areas.

Nice homes in this southeast King County area can be purchased for $250,000 and up, although property is also available in the under $200,000 range. And, like most Puget Sound communities, the Black Diamond real estate market offers the occasional million-dollar waterfront home. The average sales price for a home in Black Diamond in February 2006 sold for $266,733.

Because of its rural location, Black Diamond enjoys close proximity to many parks and recreations areas, including the Green River Gorge Conservation Area, Flaming Geyser State Park, and Mt. Rainier National Park. The nearby Kanaskat/Palmer Recreation Area is a popular site for camping. And the Green River is popular with river rafters, kayakers, and fishermen.

The Black Diamond Historical Museum is a reminder of this town's turn-of-the-century roots. The members of the Black Diamond Historical Society work hard to preserve and share the memories of this community with the people who live and visit here.

Thirty miles from Seattle, neighboring communities include Kent, Maple Valley, and Enumclaw, Black Diamond was recently designated by King County as an urban growth area.

Black Diamond still produces tons of coal each year, and is a prospective site for the development of technology-related work campuses. Should this happen, Black Diamond real estate prices are sure to climb, making property here a sound investment.
