Federal Way Real Estate

The city of Federal Way, Washington, is located between Seattle and Tacoma along the I-5 corridor, with Mt. Rainier to the east and Puget Sound to the west. The city is located 25 miles south of downtown Seattle and just 8 miles north of downtown Tacoma. Federal Way has 8 miles of Puget Sound waterfront and is in the southwestern corner of King County. Federal Way is just 10 miles south of SeaTac International Airport and directly off Interstate 5. As the state of Washington's sixth largest city, Federal Way has over 85,000 residents. The climate, which is heavily influenced by its proximity to the Puget Sound, is relatively mild-temperate.

Federal Way is strategically located as a major Puget Sound growth center, home to prominent regional, national, and international businesses. Headquarters for Fortune 500 corporations, such as timber giant Weyerhaeuser and internationally known World Vision, are located in Federal Way. Public transportation is available to various areas throughout the Puget Sound area. The two major providers of public transportation in Federal Way are Metro Transit and Sound Transit.

Recreation opportunities abound in the many parks and trails. Celebration Park is recognized as one of the premier facilities for soccer and softball on the West Coast. The Weyerhaeuser/King County Aquatic Center is home to many national and international swimming and diving competitions. In addition, there is a trail system that extends throughout the city that provides outdoor activity and education of our natural habitats. Shoppers can visit the redeveloped shopping center, The Commons at Federal Way, in the middle of downtown, with over 100 stores.

Residents have a plethora of leisure activities available in Federal Way. Residents can enjoy the premier amusement and and water park, Wild Waves/Enchanted Village, along with West Hylebos Wetlands, a unique wetlands park offering a walk along a boardwalk. Camping, picnicking, fishing, hiking and swimming are readily available in Dash Point State Park, with over 397 acres and 3,301 feet of saltwater shoreline of Pugent Sound. Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the Pacific Rim Bonsai Collection, an outdoor museaum of living art, as well as the Rhodendron Species Botanical Garden, housing one of hte largest collections of Rhododendron speciies in the world. Also, residents and visitors alike can enjoy twenty-two acres of county-owned open space, including a scenic pond and forested wetland in Bingaman Park.

School aged children are served by the schools of the Federal Way Public School District. The district has 37 schools, which include 23 elementary, 7 middle schools, Public Academy, Internet Academy (K-12), and five high schools. The district maintains a comprehensive website detailing school and district requirements along with grading online. Federal Way is home to the newly constructed Tom Beamer High School. He was a passenger aboard United Airlines Flight 93, and his words to a phone operator "Let's roll" became a widespread catch phrase throughout the United States of America following the attacks.
