North Seattle Real Estate

North Seattle is typically defined as the area of the city that is north of the Space Needle. More than a dozen distinct communities are located within North Seattle, nestled between Lake Washington to the east and the Puget Sound to the West.

The northwest neighborhoods of North Seattle include Green Lake, Wallingford, Fremont, Phinney Ridge, and Ballard. These communities have much to offer North Seattle real estate buyers. Green Lake offers countless recreational choices, Fremont is known for its eclectic collection of art and unique shops, Wallingford residents walk to many neighborhood destinations, and Phinney Ridge is home to the Woodland Park Zoo. Ballard is a fabulous waterfront community with Scandinavian roots that is just minutes from downtown.

The northeast neighborhoods of North Seattle include the University District, Ravenna, Northgate, and Lake City. Somewhat quieter than their northwest counterparts, these communities offer a broad range of home buying options, from lower end North Seattle real estate (Northgate and Lake City) to upscale estates with views of Lake Washington (Laurelhurst).

Of note is the University District of North Seattle, which surrounds the University of Washington. The “U” district is a combination of college students, young professionals, and families who are interested in North Seattle real estate near University amenities.

North Seattle real estate choices are as diverse as the communities that have carved out a presence here. From turn-of-the-century cottages and condominiums to modern construction and waterfront property, North Seattle has it all. Home prices start in the mid $200,000's and can go up to several million dollars. The average sales price for a condo or home was $357,661 in February 2006.

North Seattle is very pedestrian-friendly, most neighborhoods are on a bus line, and Interstate 5 or Highway 99 is typically a short drive away. An easy commute to downtown and the surrounding employment hubs make this a desirable location to call home.
