Sedro Woolley Real Estate

The Skagit County community of Sedro Woolley is often referred to as the “Gateway to the Cascades” because of its positioning on the western edge of this well-used mountain range. Approximately 60 miles north of Seattle and 24 miles south of Bellingham, Sedro Woolley is situated along Highway 20, on the banks of the Skagit River.

Sedro Woolley became incorporated in 1898, officially merging the neighboring towns of Sedro and Woolley. Much of the city's rural roots remain and can readily be seen when visiting the historic downtown area. Brick buildings, wooden benches, and old-fashioned light poles showcase chainsaw carvings and murals illustrating Sedro Woolley's rich history.

The founding families of Sedro Woolley have left their mark here. The 34-acre parcel of land bought by Mortimer Cook in 1884 is now Riverfront Park. And the Bingham mansion was owned by one of the town's original residents in the late 1890's.

Modernization, however, has woven a path throughout Sedro Woolley. Banks, clothing retailers, video shops, grocery stores, and other services have sprung up in the business district. More than a dozen restaurants cater to a variety of tastes and budgets. And newer housing developments have replaced some of the farmland.

The Sedro Woolley real estate market offers savvy homebuyers the opportunity to pick up view property for a bargain. Many smaller and older homes are available for well under $200,000. Three bedroom new construction starts in the low $200,000's. The average single family home or condo sold for $217,494 in February 2006. Sedro Woolley homes with acreage can be purchased in the $400,000 range!

A full-service hospital and a broad range of health services make Sedro Woolley a popular place to retire or raise a family. For those looking to live in a rural community that has much to offer its residents, this town of about 10,000 is worth consideration.
