South Seattle Real Estate

The residential area of South Seattle can be broken down into three primary neighborhoods: Beacon Hill, Georgetown, and South Park.

The South Seattle area of Beacon Hill is bounded on the west by Interstate 5 and on the north by Interstate 90, making transportation to and from this community extremely convenient. Throughout the years immigrants have migrated to Beacon Hill, making this South Seattle neighborhood ethnically diverse in both population and business.

The South Seattle community of Georgetown is bordered on the north by the railroad mainlines, on the south by Boeing Field, on the west by the Duwamish River, and on the east by Interstate 5. Georgetown's industrial proximity has limited the development of South Seattle real estate, although homes and businesses have managed to take root here.

The smaller South Seattle neighborhood of South Park lies on the west bank of the Duwamish River. In its early days, South Park was known for its Italian and Japanese farmers who regularly supplied Seattle's Pike Place Market with fresh produce. Like Georgetown, this South Seattle community has had to carve out an existence among industrial development.

South Seattle is home to several area landmarks that enrich the lives of those who live here. Jefferson Park Golf Club is here, along with several historic buildings from the early 1900's. And Jose Rizal Park boasts breathtaking views of Elliott Bay and the downtown are of South Seattle.

The average sales price for a home in South Seattle was $356,263 in February 2006. South Seattle real estate is comprised of many homes built in the early 1900's and in need of updating. The good news is that you can buy a three-bedroom home here in the low $200,000's – sometimes for much less. Add this affordability to the area's strong sense of community and you have a home market worth consideration.
