Tenino Real Estate

Tenino is a small, rural suburb of the city of Olympia, home of the Washington State Capitol. This Thurston County community of just over 1,500 people covers less than one square mile of land and is situated in one of the most beautiful and undeveloped counties in the state.

The terrain surrounding Tenino is an outdoor enthusiast's paradise. The ocean, mountains, rivers, and forest land offer beauty and recreation as far as the eye can see. The Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge offers miles of trails with periodic viewing platforms. The year-round mild climate of Tenino supports biking, hiking, boating, golfing, fishing, and all of the other activities that people in the Pacific Northwest enjoy.

Yet, even though Tenino is somewhat secluded, city amenities are just a short drive away. Tenino is about 12 miles from Centralia and Lacey and just over 13 miles from Olympia. There is much to see and do in these nearby areas. The Capitol Campus and Washington State Capitol Museum in Olympia are two examples. The Lacey Historical Museum is another.

Tenino is famous for its sandstone and the old quarry has now been converted to a community swimming pool. Many of the town's original structures were built using this material and the Tenino Depot Museum has been historically preserved to capture this early construction. Built in 1914 as a Northern Pacific depot, the Museum displays the original press used to make wood money, along with old logging tools, quarry tools, and other locally-used artifacts.

Tenino real estate is extremely affordable. In this southern Washington town, you can buy a three-bedroom, two-bath home on 1.5 acres for less than $300,000. Many small Tenino homes are available in the $100,000's and you can buy a small farm for just over $300,000! In fact, the average home sold for $210,975 in February 2006.
